Retainers are very important appliances because they keep the teeth in their new position. They have to be worn very strictly as instructed otherwise the achieved result will be compromised. Retainers may be removable or fixed.

The lower retainer should be worn as long as possible, as the highest chance of relapse occurs with the lower front teeth.
